Evidence-Based Ethology & Animal Welfare

Four formulas to meet your expectations

At Akongo, we are committed to providing you with an animal welfare monitoring solution that adapts to the diversity of animal parks. You can choose between our Autonomy formulas, available in three levels adapted to your needs, and the EBEA Research Partner Support formula, which includes collaboration on research projects.

"The goal is to enable a comprehensive assessment of the welfare of the species present, considering species variability and the number of individuals in a zoo. Depending on the team and the organisation, the monitoring can therefore be planned upstream and adjusted by the establishmentโ€™s animal welfare coordinator."

Autonomy formulas

These formulas are specially designed to meet the varied needs of parks, according to their size, budget and degree of autonomy, while benefiting from the innovative EBEA platform.

๐ŸŒฑ

EBEA Essential

Adapted to small animal parks or those with a limited budget, this formula allows you to quickly implement a first structured monitoring of animal welfare, based on behavioral observations and assessments via questionnaires.

๐Ÿ“ˆ

EBEA Progress

Designed for teams wishing to deepen their autonomous monitoring of animal welfare, this formula offers expanded features (veterinary monitoring module, scan sampling, etc.), as well as an educational application to raise visitor awareness.

โญ

EBEA FullCare

Intended for autonomous teams wishing to ensure in-depth monitoring of animal welfare, this formula provides access to all the advanced features of the platform for precise, regular and controlled monitoring in complete autonomy. Also allows you to put the S.P.I.D.E.R method into practice, to ensure traceability, documentation and evaluation of distributed enrichments. Available directly from the mobile app!

Each formula includes:

  • Complete access to the Welfare Manager platform, intuitive and efficient, and to the Welfare Monitor mobile application for your entire team.
  • Comprehensive initial training of your animal welfare coordinator in the use of the tool.
  • Responsive remote technical support when needed.

You are in control of your monitoring and adapt the approach to your pace.

๐Ÿš€

Support Formula

This approach is ideal for parks wanting personalized and regular monitoring throughout the year, guaranteeing optimal implementation of the EBEA program, and wishing to actively collaborate on animal welfare research projects.

This formula includes:

  • Complete access to the EBEA platform, and additional tools (provision of video cameras, monitoring)
  • Comprehensive initial and ongoing on-site team training.
  • 6 annual visits provided by our team for concrete and regular support.
  • Close monitoring of teams with personalized advice to continuously optimize your practices.
  • Active collaboration on research projects enabling continuous improvement and a significant contribution to animal welfare research.
  • An annual review and summary of actions carried out for welfare.

This formula offers you peace of mind thanks to structured support throughout the year.

This project may be eligible for research tax credit (CIR โ€“ see our dedicated page).

Species selection

Species selection is a crucial aspect of our methodology at Akongo. To maximise the effectiveness and impact of our program, it is essential to select species of different sizes (e.g., small and large cats rather than just large cats) with varying welfare states.

โ€œChoosing species for an animal welfare program is vital to ensure successful and sustainable implementation. Diversity allows us to maximise benefits for all the species involved.โ€

Species diversity

Incorporating both large and small species addresses practical and economic considerations. Smaller species allow for quicker implementation and adjustments, while larger species may require more time and resources. Thus, this approach enables progress, providing quick and measurable successes that sustain the momentum of the programme.

Balance between species with different challenges and opportunities

It is also important to choose species that are well-adapted to their environment and others that present specific challenges. By including species for which current practices seem effective, we can validate and strengthen those practices. Conversely, working with species that present challenges helps identify areas for improvement and develop appropriate solutions. This balanced approach demonstrate that even well-intentioned practices can benefit from revisions, while acknowledging and rewarding the efforts of the teams, which is crucial for maintaining their motivation and commitment.
